no updates to tracker?

2006-09-25 10:16:14

Well, seems like Nintendo sure isn't updating rankings or something. I played a few games again, lost some really fun games in 4 player games, actually played some 2 player games and won. My score went down, up, down and up finally. And yet, no change in the rankings. I've finally broken the 7300 mark barrier, but nothing. Sure I can go to the nintendo site and make believe like my name shows up on the 7300 part of the rankings, but that aint the same is it?
Or maybe I just don't know when/why/what causes the rankings to get updated. Anyone know?

btw, played some cheater something.com. He was bad, I was throwing all my trash at him, but of course what happens? The other two players don't even target him, and they pile it mostly on me, sometimes on the cheater. I think sometimes people are really oblivious as to who to target, especially when there's a cheater!

scores

Been a while.
So is it just me or is it that everytime that I lose, my score/rank gets updated immediately, but when I actually win, it takes a few days for the score to update. By the time the score updates, I've lost again and that high score is long gone?! :)

Ouch!....

2006-07-14 13:23:49

Last night I was up until 1:45 or so (Glad I can listen to George Norry on Coast to Coast on talk radio and play at the same time), and boy did I get a beating I won't soon forget. Of course I had fun the entire time, but my ranking sure suffered for said fun. 4 player game, and 32 games were played. The great thing was, 3 of us won 8 games each. All of our ranks were pretty close, I think I began with 6800, another with 6700, and one with 7000+. By the end of the games, we all were ~6800. Not too shabby, considering I was teamed up against by two. It usually happens that way too. Tell me if you've seen this before.

scenario:
You get a 4 player game going, and notice two players with Japanese names, pretty good ratings too. The last player is usually an English-pronouncable name with a mediocre rating (6000-6400). The lower rated player usually has no clue as to how to play, so he'll usually dump his garbage anywhere, usually me :( The game starts and the japanese players immediately send me about 8 lines. It's crazy I tell you! I think I came in 4th about 5 times, split the rest between 2nd and 3rd, and 8 times came in first. And when I came in first, I made sure one of the japanese players came in last, I'm sure that pissed them off to no end, just like it did me. What always gets me is how the japanese players really ganged up on me, even though I wasn't the highest rated player, just that I was the average player, with a non japanese name.
I call shenanigins!
Although i got killed a lot, it was tons of fun, and kinda heart pounding. I hate when I get so nervous that I begin to tremble, and then the misdrops come at a furious pace. But such is the tetris way.

Oh I've also resigned myself that I won't ever be a great player. I'm a good player, but since I can't ever find ways to do the t-spins at a consistent rate, or other tricks, I know I won't ever beat anyone over 7500, I'm just not that into winning ( I think).

happy trails

do not play while drinking
it's no good I tell ya!

Oh yah, another tip, don't play while watching your baseball team on tv. Especially when a #25 hits a grand slam in the middle of a match!

games and more games

2006-07-04 10:08:02

Last night/this Morning I had the best games I've had ina long time. By best I mean most fun, since I lost about half the games but what made it fun was the east vs west aspect of it. there were 2 Japanese players, according to the names at least, and two other players, me and someone who was NOT japanese, trust me on this, his name said so. So of course the two 7000+ japanese players decide to always boot me out first, since I was a bit higher in ranking than them. Good thing for me that I was able to withstand most of their attacks and turn it back on them. The few times I would lose (end up 4th) was because the other western player sent me his garbage! Argh! But anyhow, I won 8 of the 15 games we played, but when I won, I made sure those two always were in the bottom two. By the end of the night, they had each dropped 200+ points, and ended up with the exact same score, which I thought was pretty awesome. I can just see those two players as they lost and began watching, hoping to see me lose, laughing as I misdropped, but then going "oh no!" as I composed myself and beat the other two players. I think I came in 2nd most of the other times I didn't lose, so I was pretty darn happy with my performance. I slept like a baby after that.

revenge....

2006-06-29 11:52:48

I love exacting revenge on players that completely own me, then disconnect, but then because TDS is so random, the player winds up playing with me again. Then it's time.
And more often than not, I will end up making that player come in last in each subsequent games. Last night was a great example. Some player with a very cool name, begins with an M, can't really remember it though, comes on. He has a good rating, 7200+, and I figure cool, someone to compete with. The game begins, and I start getting all his garbage, and everyone elses too, but more to the point, and specifically, his. Tetris after tetris, for a bit I'm staying alive, the other two players are either oblivious to my plight (why wouldn't they?), or are wanting to get me too. So about 1 minute in, I'm out. Yes, I'm #4. So my rating goes down to about 6800. I'm thinking cool, next game, he's mine, all mine! Muahahahah
Game ends, M wins, and then disconnect.
:(
So I get in another game, I win, then the game disbands too. So I'm waiting for a new 4 player game, and lo and behold, M comes on again.
Awesome, I think.
So the game starts and I completely demolish the guy. I'm not making mistakes, using all the pieces nicely, basically, playing as I wish I could always play. So M comes in last. Oh yah, in this game, there was a 6000ish player, so if you lost to him, you know your rating was gonna take a huge hit. And M's rating did. I was happy. I thought he'd disconnect, but he didn't, I guess he wanted his own revenge.
It didn't come though, I made him come in last once more, even though I was really getting attacked on all sides this time. M still came in last.

Revenge is nice, especially on the tetris field.

side note:
I was recently playing Scrabble with friends, and the entire time, I kept seeing how to fill in the gaps between tiles.

staying in games...

2006-06-27 10:16:55

I've noticed that if a higher ranked player is in a game, if he wins the first game, he or she leaves immediately after that win. I'm figuring that the player is only playing games for points, not much else, but even so, doesn't winning the first game kind of lets him know that s/he can rack up points. I'm not usually one to do that, although I do care about my ranking, it's hard enough to get a 4 player game going that once I'm in one, I'm in it for the long haul. Usually, I'm ranked either 1st or 2nd in those games, but even when I'm the highest ranked, I don't leave after the first game (if I win), and if I do lose, you know I'm going to stay so I can exact my revenge against those players that were targetting me. And oh what sweet revenge it is, especially when I can make them the first player out.

my first real cheater

2006-06-24 13:51:27

I decided to start playing 2 player games more, as it seems that that's where I can do better and improve my score (after stumbling majorly yesterday, all the way down to 6500!) I get a game going and everything starts well, but then I can't rotate my blocks anymore. I figure oh well, he's used the lightening, then I realized, hey, this is 2 player! NO ITEMS!
So I'm trying real hard to get a few lines, all the while the other guy is doing piss poor, I actually send him several lines, and his pile is going up nicely. The odd thing is, his lines aren't coming to me. I know I saw him make 2 tetris(es?) but nothing showed up on my screen. The bad part? His name was in japanese, so I have no clue who it was to warn others.

Speaking of japanese names, I wish I could recognize those characters. If I see all japanese names in a 4 player game, I don't even pay attention to the names, I just say "left, center, right". And start my attack. The only bad part, if I meet a player again, I don't know how to gauge them since I can't recognize them!

I still can't believe people cheat.

4 ways, targeting

2006-06-22 09:53:50

I don't know about all of you, but I really love playing 4 player tetris. It's actually more fun, and many times, frustrating. One thing that playing this way does it that it makes you think faster, and play with fewer mistakes. Especially when two people team up on you.

I've found that if you have a 7000+ rating, and you get two players that are around 6500, they both know the game and team up on you. This has happend so many times to me it's not even funny, and I dread seeing my opponents ranking. But it's still fun, when you see about 12 lines come on your screen at once, but then you can take it down, give it right back, and take out those opponents one by one, on your own. Usually that 4th player doesn'thave much of a clue about what's going on, but if I'm doing my job right, I'll play him for 1st place at the end. I know I've taken down really good players, ranked 7500+, but mainly because the other guy I was playing with also targeted him. I also get spanked, I went down in my rating this past night, which is ok, since I am having a blast playing. But that targeting sure is dangerous....

Hopefully I can play some of you guys on this site, but so far, I haven't seen many people. And when i do, I get owned. No worries, it's all about getting better and having fun, right?

Don't play at work. Especially when there's a surprise meeting and you're in the middle of a game.
